Unbelievable!!!!!, the film, is an homage and parody of B-rated Science Fiction movies of the 1950’s and 1960’s. The dialogue is intentionally stilted and wooden as are the special effects. The sets, costumes and props are all purposefully of makeshift quality. However, the plot is solid and propels the characters through the entire story as though it has a serious intent or statement. Alongside Night is the story of the final economic collapse of the United States as seen through the eyes of 16-year-old Elliot Vreeland, searching for his missing Nobel-laureate-economist father, and the mysterious teenage “Lorimer” whom Elliot meets in a black-market underground, whose own father might be the reason Elliot’s father is missing.
An intelligent pulse of electricity is moving from house to house. It terrorizes the occupants by taking control of the appliances, either killing them or causing them to wreck the house in an effort to destroy it. Then it travels along the power lines to the next house, and the terror restarts. Having thus wrecked one household in a quiet neighbourhood, the pulse finds itself in the home of a boy’s divorced father whom he is visiting. It gradually takes control of everything, badly injures the stepmother, and traps father and son, who must fight their way out.
